With many (restored) monuments and space for urban development, the NDSM wharf post-industrial area is an icon in itself, a city in a city. In the middle of the area is a beautiful 100 year old shipbuilding shed. The NDSM terrain can be reached by crossing the River IJ with the ferry.

Nowadays the former NDSM shipyard has changed into a convivial, unpolished, straightforward post-industrial area.
After the area no longer served as a shipping yard, it was for many years the playground and home of artists and adventurers. Luckily the terrain hasn't lost all its charm and the new companies are doing their best to keep something of that old glory alive.
The newly developed office spaces and loft apartments offer a stunning view on the IJ.
You can visit exhibitions, restaurants and bars, or go to a festival with friends.
Companies like Hema and Red Bull have opened their offices in this new urban district.
Rent a bike at one of the bicycle rentals in the old city of Amsterdam, take the ferry and visit and discover Amsterdam Noord and the post-industrial monuments of the NDSM terrain by bike.
NDSM is located outside the city centre in the northern part of Amsterdam, but it is very easy and convenient to reach by ferry. It takes only 14 minutes by Ferry 906 to arrive at the harbour of NDSM. It can also be reached with Houthaven Ferry (903) from Amsterdam West.
