In the best part of Amsterdam Oud-West - just steps away from the Overtoom, Vondelpark and Wilhelmina Gasthuis grounds - you will find Café de Toog, where you can enjoy the real atmosphere of a typical Amsterdam neighbourhood.

Inside Café de Toog in Amsterdam Oud-West. The tables are decorated by Herman Brood.
The Dutch word 'de Toog' means in English 'the counter' or 'the bar' at which drinks are served by a bartender.
Neighbourhood café
The visitors of De Toog are a good reflection of the neighborhood: people who have been living nearby since many years, newcomers, students and even tourists.
While the cafe is frequently visited by locals, it is also a place where people from outside the neighborhood - and even from outside the city - come to relax and eat.
Interior
The authentic building from 1890 is cozy with dark wood, original ceilings and chandeliers. The original Brood painting on the wall is there for a reason: De Toog was for years one of his hangouts. The tables are decorated by himself.
Sunny terrace
In summer there is a large outdoor terrace where you can enjoy the afternoon sun and the warm summer breeze. The café is at 5 minutes walking distance from the Ten Katemarkt and De Hallen.
