NH Schiller is a beautiful Art Deco hotel with a rich history. The 1910 building has lots of endearing details like the stained glass window in the stairwell, the pillars supporting the arched ceiling in the lobby, and the beautiful marble staircase.

The 350 paintings of former owner Frits Schiller give every room a personal touch. His outpourings of artistic expression, in the form of portraits, landscapes, and still lifes, are displayed in halls, rooms, stairwells, and public areas. Their presence fills this hotel with a unique sense of creativity.

Location

The hotel has an excellent location on easy walking distance of all the main attractions and close to public transport. The tram stop is right across the square from the hotel. It is situated at one of Amsterdam's most beautiful squares. Shops, museums, the Flower Market, Dam Square and canals are within walking distance.

Restaurants

There are good restaurants on Utrechtsestraat, a street that leads off the Rembrandt Square on the right as you exit the hotel.

Or, experience French/Dutch cuisine and the hotel's own beer, Frisse Frits, in the Art Nouveau Brasserie Schiller , or join the in-crowd next door for a drink amid Café Schiller's Art Deco splendor.

From Brasserie Schiller you have a magnificent view of the lively Rembrandt Square. The restaurant offers the best dishes of typical Dutch cuisine, in a classical ambience, characterised by the display of works of Freidrich Schiller and the stained-glass windows in the restaurant.

Tip: ask for a room at the back of the hotel. The front of the hotel looks out over Rembrandt Square, which can be very noisy at night especially at weekends with all the bars and cafes, the loads of flashing lights and glows of neon billboards in the square and the clanking trams.
