Café van Zuylen
plenty of outdoor seating on the oldest and widest bridge of Amsterdam
Café van Zuylen near Dam Square has one of the best terraces of Amsterdam, located on the 39m wide Torensluis bridge from 1648. The space underneath the bridge used to be a prison in former days.

Bridge terrace
Though Van Zuylen is essentially a brown café and eetcafé, its main asset is its large waterside terrace on a wide bridge across the medieval Singel, next to the Multatuli statue.
Slow and bad service
The service by bar personnel - usually students of the nearby language faculty of the University of Amsterdam that do a little moonlighting - is really slow, as in so many popular places in Amsterdam.Top location
Don't go for the service but for the beautiful location and terrace. Van Zuylen is situated at an old 14th-century defensive canal of Amsterdam where an old stone bridge crosses the canal. It is close to the bustling Dam Square but it feels like you're sitting on a quiet place away from the tourist crowds. How to get there?
By tram: 1, 2, 5 or 14 stop DamBy car: nearest car park De Bijenkorf
