Restaurant David & Goliath

Kalverstraat 92, Amsterdam (Old Centre, close to Spui)

Restaurant David & Goliath is a unique restaurant situated on the former site of the cowhouse of St. Lucy's convent in the old centre of Amsterdam and close to the Kalverstraat, Amsterdam's main shopping street.

The convent was founded in 1414 and was situated between the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal and the Begijnensloot.

In summer you can sit in the outside seating area in the attractive courtyard with terrace and colonnade, and in winter you can have your meal in the company of the statues of David & Goliath.

The wooden figures of David, Goliath and his bearer were made in the 17th century by Albert Jansz. Vinckenbrink. They were designed to be put on display in one of Amsterdam's pleasure gardens until 1862. David is only 1.60 m high and Goliath towers over him with his 5.30 m.

In 1969 they were relocated from the Waag at the Nieuwmarkt to the restaurant at the Amsterdam Museum.
