Nationale Tulpendag - a unique Dutch tulip festival, which traditionally is held on the 3rd Saturday in January - is the official start of tulip season on Dam Square.
Tulip season is the period from January until the end of April in which tulips are available in all sizes and colours from florists, supermarkets and flower stands.
Every year, Dutch tulip growers build a huge garden with 200,000+ tulips on Dam Square in Amsterdam to herald the start of tulip season. On this day anyone can come to pick free tulips here.
