With its central position, Leidseplein is a true hub between Amsterdam Centrum, West and Zuid. It is one of Amsterdam's biggest centres for nightlife with many theatres, live music stages, cinemas, hotels, restaurants, cafés and clubs.

Packed between Vondelpark, Amsterdam's most important museums, several international hotels and Leidsestraat shopping street, Leidseplein has an atmosphere with a cosmopolitan character.

Nightlife

The square lights up in the evening. With hundreds of restaurants, bars, pubs, coffeeshops and popular clubs like the Melkweg and Paradiso as well as cinemas and theatres, the Leidseplein area is one of Amsterdam's most popular centres for nightlife.

On warm summer evenings, tourists and locals alike take advantage of the pubs' outdoor seating for a long, lazy drinks with friends.

The Leidseplein area has an international allure and touch of exclusivity. Street musicians, jugglers, fire-eaters and other performers make the square a lively place until the early hours.

Stadsschouwburg   city theatre

The beautiful Stadsschouwburg building dominates the Leidseplein. It is home to Toneelgroep Amsterdam, the largest theatre company in the Netherlands.

At the theatre's balcony Amsterdam's footbal team Ajax used to greet supporters after winning important games, but this is no longer possible now due to repeated riots.
